Dear New York Vintners Friends,
Thank you to the great crowd who made our January 19th tasting event, New & Classical Wines of Italy, such a big success. We’d also like to offer our warmest thanks to our guide David Lynch for his incredibly entertaining and thorough tour through Italy!
David will be back at New York Vintners on February 16th to talk about Big Winter Reds, and on March 15th with Grenache from Around the World. Join us for one or both of these exciting events by phoning 212.812.3999.
Also check out David’s book Vino Italiano, which he co-authored with another New York Vintners event alum and Italian wine/food expert, Joe Bastianich. As far as we’re concerned, Vino Italiano is the most profound and enjoyable Italian wine book ever written. Really! Signed copies will be available for sale at our upcoming David Lynch events.
In the meantime, here’s a taste of what we all enjoyed during New & Classical Wines of Italy. You can order by phoning 212.812.3999 or replying to this email.
David led us through 13 wines, starting in the Veneto with a beautifully refreshing Prosecco by Coste Petrai ($14), and finishing with one of Italy’s most distinct Nebbiolo-based wines, a Sforzato di Valtellina by Sandro Fay 2002 ($38). In between, we traveled north, south, east, and west. A Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi from Baldeschi Balleani 2006 ($26) offered a lovely combination of pears, apples, and almonds. The real crowd-pleasers of the tasting were some of the day’s reds. First was the dark, lush super-Tuscan La Mozza 2004 Aragone ($37) by New York chef Mario Batali and partner Joe Bastianich; a “Barolo of the Southâ€? Taurasi by Molettieri 2003 ($49); and a gem of a Nebbiolo and Barbera blend, Bricco Manzoni 2000 from Rocche dei Manzoni ($33).
Try all six of these wines in our New & Classical Italy Sample Six-Pack and save $15 ($182).
